MOHAMED BOUROUISSA

(1978, Bilda, Algeria)

 

He arrived in France at the age of five and grew up in the Paris suburb of Courbevoie.

He studied visual arts at the Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne University, and specialised in photography at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. He also studied at Le Fresnoy, Studio national des arts contemporains.

Today, he lives and works in Paris. His work incorporates sculpture, photography, painting, and video. In Nous Sommes Halles (2002-05), Périphérique (2005-09), Urban Riders (2018), and Resilience Garden (2018), the artist – who is involved with local communities – explores issues such as otherness and immigration, the question of stereotypes, notions of domination and power.

His work is inspired by Frantz Fanon.
